Arts and Science, The London Midland Ride

Description

600km cycling event starting from Kings Cross-St Pancras. Controls at Thame, Moreton-In-Marsh, Kinver, Rugeley, Colsterworth Services, Cambridge and Kings Cross., plus 6 information controls.

A ride from Central London to north of Birmingham and back. Sunday is easier than Saturday. Plenty of motel options between 300 and 400 km. The start and finish at Kings Cross is very public transport friendly.

The start is at 7am, meaning most entrants can get a train into London on time. If you first train of the day arrives later, we can, by agreement, wait to give you a card. At the end you will post off your brevet in the supplied SAE. The ride theme is science and the arts. You will see some marvellous engineering, pass near the birthplace of Newton, and drop in on the village of poet John Clare.

The ride runs in an arc from London to Northwest of Birmingham then south of Grantham and back, largely on minor roads. There is a towpath stretch at the beginning and you ride a high quality cycle path alongside the Cambridge - St Ives Busway.

With one exception, the full controls are 'free' and some of the information controls have supplies nearby. There are at least 7 motels for an overnight sleep between Rugeley and Colsterworth that are on or just off the route: Loughborough's at 360km are perfectly placed.
You can have a choice of riding with or without cue sheets on your GPS devices.

All riders entered by midday Sunday 29th May have been emailed briefing, routesheet and links to GPS files. Please let me know asap if you have not seen yours.
