Lyon, Lawers and Moors

Description

209km cycling event starting from Dunblane. Controls at Crieff, Aberfeldy, Bridge Of Balgie, Comrie and Braeport Centre, Dunblane., plus 1 information control.

Starting in Dunblane, a beautiful route through some of Perthshire's finest scenery, including a trip up Glen Lyon to the famous Bridge of Balgie tearoom, ascent of Ben Lawers, and crossing of Comrie Moor to finish.

Be amongst the first to experience a new audax route that has all the ingredients to become a regular classic on the calendar. Hosted by Stirling Bike Club, the ride starts and finishes in Dunblane and takes in some of the finest parts of Highland Perthshire. Heading north along a series of quiet, rural roads, you make your way towards Crieff via Kinkell Bridge. From there, the stunning Sma’ Glen takes you to Aberfeldy for a brief stop. You’ll then head to Dull and turn left towards Fortingall, where yew’ll head up Glen Lyon. Described by Sir Walter Scott as “the longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland”, the reward at the end of this section comes at the fine café in Bridge of Balgie. You’ll then be met with the climb over Ben Lawers, where, as you crest the top you are rewarded with sweeping views over the majestic Loch Tay. You next ride through Killin and into Glen Ogle, where you can enjoy the fast descent south into Lochearnhead. The Loch Earn road (the GPX route take the north road but you can take the south road if you prefer!) then takes you to Comrie and the final control of the ride. The route home over Comrie Moor provides more spectacular scenery, and from Braco you only have about 12 km back to Dunblane for some well-earned refreshments. We anticipate that your legs will be tired but your spirit will be soaring after one of the most scenic rides Perthshire has to offer.

**NOTE** we are keeping entry numbers low as a precaution - if entries are closed, email the organiser and you will be added to the reserve list.
