Description

This event is currently full and closed for entries. Note entry numbers accepted includes expected DNSs. If there are a significant number of withdrawals then I may consider reopening the event. if I do so then this is likely to be in the days immediately before the event. Sorry I wont be running waiting or reserve lists, I havent got time to deal with these immediately before the event. A scenic route with generally very little traffic, a loop around Galloway followed by a loop through the Borders with a functional bit along the B7076 with its 24 hour services for the night section.
Event is currently planned to start and finish in Kingstown, Carlisle. Its planned to be a roadside start next to McDonalds and finish in a nearby pub.
The current plan is to use Johnstonebridge Community Centre 346km as a control. Therell be food available and floorspace if you want to get a few hours sleep. Therell be a drop bag option from the start to Johnstonebridge and back to the finish. The route also passes near the Community centre again at 416km so any quicker riders could stop on the way back north whilst the control is still open
The route is on mainly very quiet roads, even the A roads are quiet. Its not a flat route but most of the climbing is gently graded and other than the overnight section is very scenic. There are long sections of the route which are remote, with very little traffic and very few facilities.
There are also 24hour commercial facilities at Abington, Johnstonebridge and Gretna Services. There is nothing open after Johnstonebridge Northbound until 6am at Moffat or Peebles.
Eskdalemuir will be staying open later on Sunday for the event so there will be something available later on Sunday.
With some sensible planning there will be plenty of opportunities to get food at shops and cafes on the route. The route has been planned so that most riders will have a number of choices for places to eat and drink. If youre a quicker rider and dont stop for a bit overnight then you should be prepared to ride some long distances up to 100km potentially with very little option for commercial facilities. It is intended that most of the riders will use the facilities at the services or nearby.
If you are intending to ride and dont intend stopping at the Community Centre and are looking for accommodation at a commercial facility then you may want to consider booking this on a fully flexible basis before entering.
Entries for this event are limited and may close before the closing date. If you intend to enter and ride this event then early entry is encouraged to secure a place.
