A day trip to The English Riviera

Description

101km cycling event starting from Brixham cricket club. Controls at Stokeinteignhead, Staverton Railway Station, The Green Dragon At Stoke Fleming and Finish-Brixham Cricket Club., plus 3 information controls.

A picturesque and lumpy route that firstly crosses the three towns of Torbay that make up The English Riviera before heading inland through the lanes of South Devon and into the scenic South Hams.

The ride departs Brixham (fish town) and takes riders through Paignton and onto the outskirts of Torquay, through the 'picture postcard' village of Cockington. A series of lanes take riders to the first control at the village of Stokeinteinhead. The route then goes inland to the outskirts of Newton Abbot and across to the outlying villages around Totnes where the second control awaits. The climbing really starts from here on as the ride enters the area known as The South Hams. Payback for the legs workout are the views around every corner. Heading back towards the sea and following the coast road back to Dartmouth has to be one of the most picturesque rides in the South West. A short ferry crossing(included in your entry fee) takes riders across the River Dart for the last long climb of the day towards Brixham. Passing through the historic harbour area one last challenge awaits and thats the climb of Overgang where William of Orange marched his troops after he landed in Brixham. Focus on the views rather than the gradient. Less than a mile to go from the summit and a well earned drink at the cricket club HQ.
