A 214km ride starting from Aylestone Leicester. with controls at Egginton (A38 Services), Great Haywood and a free control at Whittington. includes 4 info controls.
The ride starts by traversing Bradgate park the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, the 8 day Queen and the Charnwood forest before passing through Repton, an important seat and burial place of many Mercian kings. Continue your journey North West along quiet lanes to Hawksmoor before turning South towards a lunchtime stop at Great Haywood's Canalside farm shop. After lunch ride past the imposing Tixall Gatehouse, once a prison to Queen Mary I. Traverse Cannock chase before entering the beautiful city of Lichfield with it's stunning cathedral, a hugely significant site to king Offa, one of Mercia's most powerful kings. Return across the gently rolling South Staffordshire and Leicestershire countryside before returning to arrivee for some well earned refreshments.
