Description

A companion ride to the 'Essex and Suffolk Borders 200'. The ride starts in BUNTINGFORD (Herts), goes out to Manningtree & back via Lavenham. If you want to start in Manningtree don't enter this event!
This ride is a 200 km PBP qualifying ride but please do not panic about entering early as there will be plenty of space. The ride starts and finishes at the Bowling Green Lane car park in Buntingford and uses commercial controls, which means I can be pretty flexible with numbers. It's an X rated event of the 'Essex and Suffolk Borders 200' but starting from Buntingford instead of Manningtree. This ride will go the opposite way round so you will see get to wave at everyone on the Manningtree start.

Herman Ramsey set up the Green & Yellow Fields 300 and Asparagus & Strawberries 400. This event is designed to complement those two rides and is also based on one of Herman's original rides. It starts from the Bowling Green Lane car park in Buntingford. There is an early info control at Great Chishill windmill and the next control is at the easternmost point of the ride in Manningtree. The return leg is via a control in Lavenham, with a final info control in the Manuden.

The route passes through many of the amazing areas, villages and towns of the region, including Dedham Vale AONB, Bures, Finchingfield, Saffron Walden, The Pelhams, Stoke by Clare, Long Melford, Lavenham and Boxford.

Finalised routesheet and GPX files to be provided nearer the time once the route has been checked. https://www.gpxeditor.co.uk/routes2/users/adam.alexander.young%40gmail.com/Alternative-E-and-SB-2022

This would be a great first 200 km ride for anyone stepping up the distance, or if new to audax, as it's a relatively simple route without too much climbing. (For anyone new to audax full stop there is a great video explaining the process here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do0iQ7iustk )
