Description

Join Kingston Wheelers Audax Chapter for a gravel focussed 100 mile randonneur from Kingston to Chanctonbury Ring and back. A challenging multi media ride using road and off-road sections of differing types (standard gravel, mud and singletrack)

The route is mostly two anti-clockwise loops joined by a stretch of Downs Link gravel. It uses off road sectors (established bridleways, cycle paths, disused railway lines) and road to get you to the South Downs and back.

It will cross the North Downs and pick up the Downs Link cycleway near CHILWORTH stopping for refreshment at the MILK CHURN CAFE before re-joining the Downs Link and then riding through the Knepp Wildlands to take you to the chalk slopes of the South Downs and CHANCTONBURY RING. Return leg via ASHINGTON is a partial repeat of the outward route using the Downs Link but then cuts across to the Surrey Hills up to COLDHARBOUR and then the final run in via FETCHAM back to Kingston.

There will be food and beer (non alcoholic options available) at the Park Brewery (included in the price) to greet you

What bike? Ideally I would suggest a 'gravel'/'CX' bike as there is a mix of terrain with a fair amount of road which may be hard work on a MTB. Doable on a tourer if you are confident off road (with a bit of hike a bike). At least something with plenty of clearance for thicker (plus 35c) tyres.
