Petworth Start of SummerTime 100

Description

111km cycling event starting from Pound Street Car Park, Petworth, W Sussex. Controls at Petworth, Hampers Green Community Centre, Petworth, Hampers Green Community Centre and Petworth, Hampers Green Community Centre., plus 5 information controls.

A Start of SummerTime 111k ride starting in Petworth and consisting of three loops centred on Hampers Green Community Centre.

Start is in the free Pound Street carpark (Behind Co-Op Store) in Petworth. No parking ticket is required!

Entry fee covers food at start, manned control and the finish. No entries on the line

Ideal for those wishing for a swift morning run & for those who would like to take until nearly 16:00. If you wish to ride a 200k or more this event makes the ideal one to ECE and then you have complete control over the roads you use for the extra Kms.

Final Welcome Letter, Route sheet and GPX track will be available the week before the event following final checking.

Stage 1 (45k) leaving the Start Control you head North, eventually passing the Hampers Green Community Centre Hall before turning towards Balls Cross avoiding the main A283. Soon you arrive in Kirdford before heading North to Plaistow (INFO). A short section North of Plaistow before you are heading West through Chiddingfold and near to Combe Common (INFO). You now head South before passing through Lurgashall, to the boundary of Petworth House. After the only significant climb of the stage, you are soon descending through Upperton joining the A272 at Tillington. After a short section on the A272 to Petworth you arrive back at the Hampers Green Village Hall, Petworth to control.

Stage 2 (40k) initially on a main road you head South out of Petworth towards Duncton Hill, but instead of climbing it you turn West towards Cocking on country lanes. Back on a main road, and the easier climb out of Cocking you head S to the village of Singleton (INFO) before continuing East again on country lanes towards Upwaltham. Re-joining the main road, you head North back to the Petworth and Hampers Green Village Hall control, but with a DESCENT of Duncton Hill.

Stage 3 (26k) returning to the centre of Petworth you take the High Street near the Start Control to join the original main road route East to Fittleworth (INFO just after the village). From Fittleworth you head North on country lanes and the climb of Bedham Hill before joining the A272 into Wisborough Green. After the final INFO you head towards Kirdford, where we have two alternative routes to follow. The proposed route, to be used in WET conditions avoids the section before joining the A272 that is prone to flooding, and routes the ride via Balls Green back to Petworth. The alternative, using the original route, should only be considered if conditions before and during the ride are dry.
