A Bit of a Trial

Description

114km cycling event starting from Lancaster. Controls at Longridge and Lancaster., plus 2 information controls.

Accompanying event to the Pendle Witch Trial 200. Anticlockwise route from Lancaster. Shorter and slower but still fairly lumpy.

It may be shorter than The Pendle Witch Trial 200, which it accompanies, but this route still has much to challenge and enjoy. Large areas of remote and exposed moorland are still included, so please make sure you and your bicycle are adequately prepared. South from Lancaster for a pull over Oakenclough to Longridge, where there will be a free control including the option of cafe stop if you wish. From here the route deviates from its bigger sibling taking a quite road through Ribchester, Whalley, past Sabden and thru Newchurch-in-Pendle to the second control at Barley. Just over halfway here and a bit of climb next so make sure you are well rested and refreshed before the return leg. At the top of Pendle Hill rejoin the longer route at 64km for the cracking descent to Chatburn before deviating again to the third control at Slaidburn via the climb of Harrop Fold. Turning west through the Forest of Bowland, you rejoin the longer route at 85km for the return to Lancaster via the Trough of Bowland. At present, due to COVID restrictions, the ride is offered as a postal finish but if things improve I hope to offer ride validation on the day at a pub finish. Lancaster is easy to get to situated on the West Coast Mainline and adjacent to the M6 motorway. There are a number of budget hotels in the area. The start of the ride is just 2.5km south of the city centre. Start times will be staggered due to COVID requirements. If you wish to start with a mate, please contact me to arrange.
